DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Introduction:

Computer Science is a broad field which encompasses all aspects of computers, including the design and application of both hardware and software. Career opportunities are diverse and are found in computer design, manufacturing, development, testing, transportation, communications, research, education and management. The faculty has some of the best talents drawn from academics who spare no effort in catering to every scholastic need of the students. Faculty members act as mentors, guiding students during the courses to help them develop the necessary technical skills and attitudes required to become successful IT managers and corporate citizens. They are also involved in research activities in various fields like Genetic Algorithm, Networking, Data Mining, Image Processing, etc. The courses started by our department are as follows.

 		B.Sc. Computer Science 	: 2007 – 2008
		M.Sc. Computer Science 	: 2012- 2013
		B.C.A. and M. Phil. (CS): 2015 - 2016

The Department is equipped with a well-furnished computer laboratory and a Department Library furnished with the latest books on Computer. To break the geographical boundaries, the Department has a WiFi Internet facility.

Activities: (2015 - 2016)

1. Computer Science Association was inaugurated by Dr. L. Arockiam, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy in the presence of Dr. P. Kulalmolial, Principal, Government Arts College, Ayyarmalai, Kulithalai.
2. Dr. L. Arockiam gave lectures on Research Methodology to M.Phil. Students and Personality development to UG and PG Students.
3. Our Department distributed flood relief materials to the victims of Sivanandipuram Village, Kuruncipadi Taluk, Cuddalore District.

Publications:

1. Mr. R. Govindaraj, Associate Professor & Head, published one paper in an International Journal.
2. Mrs. K. Bhuvaneswari, Assistant Professor, published one paper in the Conference Proceedings.
3. Dr. P. Calduwel Newton, Assistant Professor, published three papers in the Conference Proceedings and two papers in the International Journals.

Achievements:

1. Ms. Kanaga (III B.Sc. CS) got a University Rank and received a Cash Prize Rs.3000/- from Dr. P. Kulalmolial, Principal, Government Arts College, Ayyarmalai, Kulithalai.
2. Ms. Sakthi (III B.Sc. CS) got a University 18th Rank in the year 2012.
3. Mr. N. Logu (II M.Sc. CS) and Mr. R. Thangamani participated and won First prizes in Drum Folk Dance competition from various Colleges such as Chettinad College, Karur, Brama College, Namakkal and Indira Gandhi College, Trichy in the year 2014- 2015.
4. Mr. N. Logu (II M.Sc. CS) & co. participated and won Second prize in Drum Folk Dance competition held in Kalai Kauveri College, Trichy in the year 2014- 2015.
5. Mr. N. Logu (II M.Sc. CS) & co. participated and won Third prize in Drum Folk Dance competition held in Bharathidasan University, Trichy and Karunanidhi College, Coimbatore in the year 2014- 2015.
6. Mr. N. Logu (II M.Sc. CS) participated and won Second prize in Solo Instrumental competition held in Kalai Kauveri College, Trichy in the year 2014- 2015.
7. Ms. A. Kanaga (I M.Sc. CS) won First Prize in a Paper Presentation competition held in our College in the year 2014- 2015.
